Mega web is a Toyota run showroom and Museum located in the Palette town area of Odaiba. It is free to enter, although there are a couple of rides that you need to pay to have a go on.
The Toyota City Showcase area hosts a large selection of Toyotas current cars, and also some of the new models they are bringing out. There is also a section featuring concept cars and some very futuristic looking modes of transport.
Sometimes it is the display rather than the car that is the most interesting thing to look at. As you can see in the above photo where they have strange country scene draped over the hood of the car. Very odd.
One of the paid for parts of the museum is the E-com ride where you get to sit in an electric driverless car that travels on a track running all around the show room and outside into palette town. There are a whole selection of cars each painted in very distinctive designs. It cost 300 yen to have a ‘drive’ and its quite good fun when you have been on your feet all day. On the day we visited it was pretty busy, even though it was mid week, but we still only had to wait about 10 minutes to get a seat.
There is also the ‘Ride One’ attraction where you can drive and automatic electric car. You will require a Japanese or recognized international driving permit to do this.
Other areas at mega web include the History Garage as the name suggests, you will find vintage and classic Toyota cars. There is also the Universal Design showcase where you can get hands on with the exhibits and see how cars are designed.
Megaweb is a great place to visit if you want a cheap day out and break from the hustle and bustle of Tokyo. And once you are done here you can easily move on to the huge shopping malls next door.
Glad you mentioned the shopping!! Of course, the delightful Venus Fort is right next door - the ultimate shopping experience designed especially for ladies.
