Click is the BBC News Channel's weekly technology and gadget programme and recently they did a show about electronic language translation devices. I guess it's not surprising that they went to Japan to test out the latest translation technology as Japanese has a reputation for being a difficult language for foreigners to learn. In fact, it's not too difficult to learn some basic spoken Japanese but the written language is a different matter altogether! So it is interesting to see technology and apps that can use scanning or touch screen technology to cope with written kanji. You can watch the programme on the BBC iplayer at http://www.bbc.co.uk/i/vt66f/ Japanese Electronic Tranlators from Amazon The video features a pen scanner from Wizcom that can read kanji: Quicktionary®2 |
